Datafrost Space at the 2023 UN World Space Forum
12/18/23
UNO-City Vienna International Centre, Wagramer Straße, Vienna, Austria
The 2023 World Space Forum provided an opportunity to identify the feasibility of the product and build some excitement within the aerospace community.
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs holds the World Space Forum as a platform for continuous dialogue among the global community regarding a wide spectrum of space-related issues, with the aim of promoting sustainable socioeconomic development. The Forum actively advocates for realising the "Space2030'' Agenda, which positions space as a catalyst for sustainable development, as outlined in the implementation plan adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution 76/3. This endeavour involves the broad participation of all relevant stakeholders in the space sector.
Informing the Summit of the Future
This year, the outcomes of the Forum will be used to inform the intergovernmental negotiations happening in preparation for the Summit of the Future and its action-driven outcome document - the Pact of the Future - a declaration to refocus and coordinate global efforts to "turbocharge" the SDGs and address the challenges of the post-pandemic world.
Aims of the 2023 World Space Forum
The World Space Forum 2023 is geared towards several key objectives. Firstly, the platform seeks to reaffirm and strengthen the role of space activities and tools in contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Additionally, the forum aims to involve young people as future leaders in addressing key challenges and endeavours to foster dialogue and close cooperation to develop a common vision for space. The "Space2030" agenda is positioned at the centre stage as a guiding document to boost space-derived economic benefits and strengthen the space sector's role as a major driver for sustainable development. Lastly, the forum serves as a platform for bringing together space actors to exchange best practices and collaboratively explore ways to address challenges facing humanity and sustainable development.
ASEFYLS5 Team 5 at the World Space Forum
Feline van Bakel, Sibtain Ali Thepdawala and Dimitar Ferdinandov attended the convention to present the results of the efforts of Team 5 within the Action Phase of the ASEF 5th Young Leader Summit. Focusing on the challenge of building awareness and encouraging more actors across all fields to leverage and implement space data in their operations, with the support of their challenge owner - the Slovak Space Office, Team 5 designed an app which offers matchmaking opportunities. Their main aim at the conference was to engage in discussions with space actors from diverse backgrounds (policy makers, space industry, solution providers) to identify the feasibility of the product and build some excitement within the community.
